COOPER JOINT VENTURE RECEIVES ORDERS VALUED AT OVER $140 MILLION
HOUSTON, Aug. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Cooper Rolls, an equally owned joint venture of Houston-based Cooper Industries, Inc. (NYSE: CBE) and Rolls-Royce plc of London, England, has received orders valued at over $140 million for 16 Coberra(R) gas turbine systems to be installed on oil and gas platforms offshore India. Cooper's share of the orders is more than $75 million.
The 16 gas turbines are part of three large projects undertaken by the Oil & Natural Gas Commission of India (ONGC). A Coberra gas turbine consists of a Rolls-Royce industrial gas generator matched with a Cooper-Bessemer(R) power turbine, often driving a Cooper-Bessemer centrifugal compressor.
For gas compression duty on its SHG offshore platform in the Indian Ocean, ONGC has purchased seven Coberra mechanical drive units through a consortium of Cooper Rolls and Kawasaki Heavy Industries. These units will be pre-installed in modules, which will then be installed complete on the offshore platform. In addition, on behalf of ONGC and also for installation on the SHG platform, Daewoo Shipbuilding & Heavy Machinery Ltd. has purchased three Coberra units to be used for offshore power generation. All 10 gas turbines for the SHG platform are scheduled for delivery in the first and second quarters of 1993.
Also on behalf of ONGC, Hyundai Heavy Industries Co. Ltd. has ordered three Coberra turbogenerator sets for the NPC (Neelam) process complex. These three units, scheduled for delivery in the second quarter of 1993, will be installed for power generation on ONGC's NPC platform.
The third project undertaken by ONGC is the NQP process platform. For this platform, Hyundai Heavy Industries Co. Ltd. has ordered three Coberra mechanical drive units on behalf of ONGC. These three units will be used for gas compression service. They are slated for delivery in the second quarter of 1993.
With these 16 new Coberra gas turbines, ONGC has a total of 27 Coberra systems either installed or on order, all for offshore service. The first installation of Coberra equipment for ONGC was in 1980.
Cooper Rolls is the exclusive marketer of Coberra systems. Worldwide, more than 500 Coberra gas turbine systems have been installed or are on order, 110 or more of them for offshore service. They have over 15 million hours of operating experience.
Cooper Industries, with 1991 revenues of $6.2 billion, is a diversified, worldwide manufacturer of electrical products, electrical power equipment, tools and hardware, automotive products, and petroleum and industrial equipment.
