HOUSTON, Feb. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Cooper Rolls, an equally owned joint venture of Houston-based Cooper Industries, Inc., (NYSE: CBE) and Rolls-Royce plc of London, has received orders valued at over $120 million from five European customers for its Coberra(R) line of gas turbines and compression equipment. Cooper's share of the orders is more than $83 million.
British Gas plc has ordered three Coberra(R) systems. (A Coberra gas turbine consists of a Rolls-Royce industrial gas generator matched with a Cooper-Bessemer(R) power turbine, often driving a Cooper- Bessemer(R) centrifugal compressor.) Two of the units ordered by British Gas are for gas transmission service at Morecambe Bay on the west coast of the United Kingdom, and the third unit will be installed at its Easington Terminal Rough onshore site on the east coast of the U.K. The Morecambe Bay orders are scheduled for delivery in the fourth quarter of 1994, and the Easington order is scheduled for delivery in 1993.
In addition, British Gas has ordered two Cooper-Bessemer compressors as replacements for existing units on its North Sea Rough Field offshore platform. The compressors are scheduled for delivery in the third quarter of 1993. Having installed its first Coberra in 1974, British Gas has purchased a total of 19 Cooper Rolls gas turbines.
Gasunie, the national gas company of The Netherlands, has ordered two Coberra gas turbines and two Cooper-Bessemer compressors for gas transmission service at its Ravenstein station. These units are scheduled for delivery in the second quarter of 1993. In addition, as replacement units for its Beverwijk station in The Netherlands, Gasunie has ordered conversion upgrades of three Coberra units and Cooper- Bessemer compressors, which are scheduled for completion in the third quarter of 1993.
Conoco Norway Inc. has ordered four Coberra units for platform use in the Heidrun Field, offshore Norway. These units are scheduled for delivery during the second and third quarters of 1993.
To support its North Sea offshore Oseberg platform operation, which uses eight Coberra units, Norsk Hydro A.S. has ordered a gas generator to serve as a spare.
Shell U.K. Exploration and Production has placed an order, through AMEC Engineering, for a gas-fueled Coberra gas turbine package for a gas export/lift application in the Brent Field, offshore in the North Sea. It is slated for delivery in the third quarter of 1993.
Cooper Rolls is the exclusive marketer of Coberra systems. Worldwide, more than 500 Coberra gas turbine systems have been installed or are on order, 117 for offshore service. The units have over 15 million hours of operating experience.
