CONVENTION PRESS CORPS EXPERIENCE BI-PARTISAN PRINTING
AS KYOCERA ECOSYS ASI MAKES SECOND CONVENTION APPEARANCE
HOUSTON, Aug. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- It is rare in a presidential- election year for both major parties to agree on anything, but when the media arrives here today for the Republican National Convention it will find the Kyocera ECOSYS aSi FS-1500A printers in the press room, just like the ones found in New York for the Democratic Convention last month.
The ECOSYS aSi makes sense as a bi-partisan printer since it can satisfy the budget-conscious computer-printer user with operational costs two-thirds less than the competition while also being far-more environmentally sensitive.
Unlike the industry-standard laser printer, which relies on replaceable toner cartridges, which end up in landfills at a rate of some 16 million units annually, the ECOSYS aSi printer simply gets a toner refill and keeps on printing. (And the toner container turns to water vapor and carbon dioxide when incinerated.)
According to Gerry Rittenberry, Kyocera Electronics executive vice president, the costs of laser cartridges have become a concern to budget conscious businesses.
"The first concern is the cost, since a laser cartridge needs replacing after approximately 4,000 printed pages; then comes the concern over the space needed to store, and eventually dispose of, the replacement cartridges," he said.
"In comparison, the ECOSYS toner supply lasts some 5,000 pages before replenishment is required, costs considerably less, takes up much less storage space and comes in a non-toxic container."
"And all of these advantages come with print quality rivaling anything a laser can do."
The printers in the Republican Convention press room occupy two- thirds less space than a comparable laser yet feature 10-page-per-minute performance, 250-page paper tray, one megabyte of memory, parallel and serial interfaces, six built in printer emulations and 79 resident bitmapped and 13-scalable fonts (all equal or greater than standard laser features).
Options allow for built-in networking, postscript compatibility, up to five megabytes of memory, up to 1,250-page capacity, duplexing, envelope feeder and 15-bin sorter.
Kyocera Electronics is part of the $3.5 billion Kyocera Corporation, a worldwide producer of high-technology solutions in electronics, materials sciences, communications, optics and energy. Kyocera employs nearly 10,000 persons in North America.
