CONTROVERSY SURROUNDS NEW WHITE HOUSE SNACK

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich., Jan. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Cinnamon Roasted Almonds have become somewhat of a controversial snack since President Bill Clinton munched on them at the inaugural gala earlier this month. Ritter's Quality Foods, Inc. company partner Rick Ritter says a mailing snafu is why almond vendors are in an "Almond War."
Ritter says back on Oct. 27, his company shipped three cases of Ritter's Cinnamon Roasted Almonds by UPS to Clinton headquarters in Little Rock, Ark. On Oct. 30, his company received a letter back from election headquarters. "The envelope was addressed to us, but the letter inside was to a Mrs. Lucille Mothershed, a second grade teacher in Little Rock."
The letter reads "... thank you for the letters you sent from your second grade class ... " It was addressed to Mrs. Mothershed and signed by Bill Clinton.
Ritter responds, "We have a UPS receipt and we have Mrs. Mothershed's letter. Why would we get a letter at all if the Clinton-Gore team didn't get our nuts?"
Bob Phinney, president of the California Almond Board, says he doesn't know why Ritter received the odd letter. "I know the almonds for the inaugural gala were roasted and packed in Washington on Jan. 13 and 14 by another company. There's been a lot of talk about these almonds. I hope you all win."
And with all the attention Cinnamon Roasted Almonds have been getting, Ritter says, "The real winner is the public. More people know about the almonds now, and the more who know about them, the more who will be able to enjoy them."
Ritter's Cinnamon Roasted Almonds are not yet available in the retail marketplace, but can be obtained by calling 1-800-524-5510.
