CONTRAST MEDIA RESEARCH ALLIANCE FORMED BY STERLING WINTHROP AND
 STANFORD UNIVERSITY
NEW YORK, Nov. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Sterling Winthrop Inc. today announced that the Sterling Winthrop Pharmaceuticals Research Division (SWPRD) and Sanofi Winthrop Pharmaceuticals have launched an innovative program of collaboration with U.S. centers of excellence to foster research in the field of diagnostic imaging. The Contrast Media Research Alliance (CMRA) has as its inaugural partner Stanford University School of Medicine's Department of Radiology.
The core of CMRA will consist of a network of research projects at leading academic medical centers for the purpose of supporting basic research in diagnostic imaging contrast media. According to SWPRD's Dr. Denis M. Bailey, executive vice president, diagnostic imaging, these research alliances will stimulate and promote creativity in the academic radiology community and enhance the field in general.
"It is our intent," said Dr. Bailey, "to strengthen the bond between academia and Sterling Winthrop by providing for an environment in which collaboration in basic research is fostered."
"Our business is dependent upon a continuous flow of ideas," said Daniel L. Peters, executive vice president, Sanofi Winthrop Pharmaceuticals, the U.S. pharmaceuticals marketing unit of Sterling Winthrop. "By providing a platform to nurture basic research in the radiology community, we seek to enrich both partners and to advance the usefulness of contrast media in diagnoses."
The term of collaboration will be three years with an option, subject to mutual agreement, for extension to five years. Research alliance support will be administered by department chairpersons for use within their unit.
