 COMPLEMENTARY OUTSOURCING SOLUTIONS AGREEMENT
 AUSTIN, Texas, Oct. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- The Continuum Company (NYSE: CNU), a leading software and services provider to the international insurance industry, and Integrated Systems Solutions Corp. (ISSC), a subsidiary of IBM, today announced a joint agreement to provide complementary outsourcing solutions services to the life insurance industry.
 Under the terms of this agreement, Continuum will provide its application software to ISSC customers, supported by extensive insurance industry application expertise for development, maintenance and support services. ISSC, located in Tarrytown, N.Y., will supply data center and network resources and operations along with services and support.
 W. Michael Long, chief executive officer of Continuum, says, "This agreement unites two strong forces for outsourcing services in the industry. Continuum's experience with over 250 life insurance customers worldwide and its proven systems for contract administration and client- and-agency-management, paired with ISSC's proven facilities and support, will allow companies to concentrate on core business issues rather than day-to-day systems operations. Through this agreement, Continuum and ISSC can give companies access to industry-leading technology at a predictable cost, without the expense and risk of installing, maintaining and managing a data-processing infrastructure."
 Edward Archer, vice president of ISSC, says, "This agreement gives life insurance companies reliable entree to sophisticated software and hardware technologies -- solutions to which they might not normally have access. Through the mutual cooperation of ISSC and Continuum, our shared customers will reap substantial productivity benefits."
 Through the terms of the agreement, ISSC and Continuum will provide life insurance companies with system, personnel and management resources necessary to meet corporate data processing goals. Continuum's life insurance administration offerings include: LIFE/70(R), LIFE-COMM(TM), CLOAS(R) and CCA(TM) and Enterprise Solutions by Continuum(TM) (ES/C(TM)). ES/C is Continuum's product strategy for integrated, yet open systems that extend powerful, highly flexible information management applications across the enterprise on multiple, diverse platforms. These systems support IBM architectures, standard operating systems and systems software.
 This agreement reinforces Continuum's already strong relationship with IBM, and builds on the systems integration agreements signed by IBM and Continuum in the United States and Europe in 1991 and 1992. Under the terms of the U.S. Systems Integration (SI) agreement signed in August 1992, the two companies provide integrated system solutions to the Life and Property & Casualty insurance industries.
 In September 1991, IBM United Kingdom Limited and Continuum (Europe) signed a Marketing Assistance Agreement for the sales of Continuum's life insurance and property & casualty systems, CCA, CLOAS, LIFE/70, and COGEN(TM), and for Enterprise Solutions By Continuum (ES/C) application components.
 Continuum has a long-running, established relationship with IBM, with these associations:

 -- Industry Application Specialist (IAS)
 -- ImagePlus Business Partner
 -- Participant in the IBM Key Vendor Program (one of approximately 30 premiere vendors selected by IBM)
