CONTINENTAL WELCOMES ESTABLISHMENT OF BIPARTISAN COMMISSION ON AIRLINE INDUSTRY

HOUSTON, Feb. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Continental Airlines Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Robert R. Ferguson III today welcomed the announcement by Transportation Secretary Pena and Congressional leaders of the establishment of a bipartisan commission to examine the airline industry. Ferguson said that Continental also was encouraged by the hearings to be conducted by the aviation subcommittee of the House Public Works Committee headed by Representative Jim Oberstar.
"Both these forums will focus much needed attention on an industry that is not only in crisis, but critical to our nation's economic well- being," said Ferguson. "Hopefully, actions that will help to restore industry profitability and preserve competition will swiftly follow whatever recommendations are made."
