CONTINENTAL NAMES THOMAS A. GILDEHAUS, MILES L. MARSH TO BOARD OF DIRECTORS

 CHICAGO, Feb. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Continental Bank Corp. (NYSE: CBK) announced today that Thomas A. Gildehaus and Miles L. Marsh have been elected to its board of directors.
 Gildehaus is president and chief executive officer of Chicago-based UNR Industries, Inc., a diversified metals manufacturing firm. Marsh is chairman and chief executive officer of Pet Inc., a packaged foods company headquartered in St. Louis.
 Gildehaus, 52, was formerly executive vice president and a director of Deere & Co., Moline, Ill., where he was responsible for Deere's Worldwide Industrial Division. Prior to joining Deere & Co. in 1980, Gildehaus was a vice president and director of Temple, Barker and Sloane, Inc., a management consulting firm. Prior to that post, Gildehaus worked for Citibank's overseas division.
 A resident of suburban Chicago, Gildehaus serves as a trustee for the National 4-H Council and of St. Katherine's/St. Mark's School in Bettendorf, Iowa. He is a graduate of Yale University and the Harvard Graduate School of Business Administration.
 Marsh, 45, previously was president and chief operating officer of Whitman Corp. from 1989 to 1991, where he was responsible for four subsidiaries: Pet Inc., Hussmann Corp., Pepsi-Cola Bottlers, Inc., and Midas International Corp.
 From 1981 to 1989, Marsh was with Philip Morris Companies, where he served as president of General Foods USA, president of Kraft Operations and Technology Group, president of Kraft International, and executive vice president and chief financial officer of Kraft, Inc. Earlier, he was a consultant for five years with McKinsey and Company.
 Marsh also serves on the boards of Evanston Hospital, Hartmarx Corp., Whirlpool Corp. and The Arts and Education Council of Greater St. Louis. Marsh holds a bachelor's and an MBA degree from the University of Cape Town, South Africa, and a Ph.D. in finance from Northwestern University. He resides in suburban Chicago.
 Gildehaus and Marsh bring to 10 the number of outside directors on Continental's board. The other outside directors are: James W. Cozad, former chairman and chief executive officer of Whitman Corp.; Bert A. Getz, president and director of GlobeCorp.; Robert B. Goergen, chairman of several companies, including Blyth Industries, Inc.; Roger H. Morley, former president and director of American Express Co.; Linda Johnson Rice, president and chief operating officer of Johnson Publishing Company, Inc.; John M. Richman, of counsel to the law firm of Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz; Gordon I. Segal, president and chief executive officer, Crate & Barrel; and James L. Vincent, chairman of the board and chief executive officer of Biogen, Inc.
 The inside directors are Chairman Thomas C. Theobald and Vice Chairman Richard L. Huber.
