CONTINENTAL ESTABLISHES WORLDWIDE ACCESS TO ATLANTIC CITY WITH INAUGURATION OF NEW SERVICE

Governor Florio Lauds Continental & South Jersey Transportation Authority For Commitment To N.J.'s Most Popular Tourism Destination
NEWARK, N.J., July 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Continental Express, a wholly owned subsidiary of Continental Airlines, inaugurated service between Newark and Atlantic City today, with Governor Florio as the first passenger. The inaugural of the Newark-Atlantic City route creates new worldwide access to Atlantic City from Continental's destinations around the globe, often with just one stop.
According to Dennis Crabtree, president of Continental Express, the new service is a part of Continental's continuing commitment to New Jersey.
"As Continental's hub in the Northeast, operations and strategic growth at Newark remain a top priority for the airline," said Crabtree. "With our extensive route structure around the world, domestic and international passengers will now have easy access to New Jersey's most popular tourism destination."
Governor Florio lauded the partnership between Continental and the South Jersey Transportation Authority (SJTA) as a significant step forward in fulfilling the promise of the Atlantic City region.
"Today is an exciting day for Continental, the South Jersey Transportation Authority, and the people of New Jersey. With the introduction of seamless travel into Atlantic City, we are only beginning to tap into the potential of this region," said Florio. "The partnership between Continental and the South Jersey Transportation Authority is an excellent example of what we can achieve when we all work together -- jobs have been protected and created and New Jersey's tourism industry has been strengthened, bringing continued economic growth into the region."
Continental and the SJTA have entered into a Public/Private Partnership to provide the service. Continental and the SJTA plan to add approximately 40 additional jobs in conjunction with the route.
"This is a unique opportunity for the SJTA and the people of Southern New Jersey," said William Dalton, chairman of the Authority. "Our partnership with Continental Airlines and the assistance of Governor Florio make premium air service to the region available. We are pleased that the SJTA was able to work out this mutually beneficial agreement."
Continental is offering four round trip daily departures, with connections available from Continental's more than 300 flights per day worldwide. International connections will also be available from Canada and Europe through Air Canada and SAS. Flight information and reservations are available directly from Continental or by calling your local travel agent.
