CONTINENTAL BUSINESSFIRST CUSTOMERS TEST STOCK MARKET SAVVY AT 40,000 FEET TO WIN SIX MONTHS UNLIMITED DOMESTIC TRAVEL

HOUSTON, Nov. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Continental Airlines today announced a special promotion to launch its new BusinessFirst service on non-stop transcontinental routes. In a first-of-its-kind airline promotion, BusinessFirst customers traveling between November 15, 1993 and November 19, 1993 on its new transcontinental BusinessFirst flights will be challenged to test their stock picking proficiency at 40,000 feet, with the winner receiving six months of unlimited First Class and BusinessFirst domestic mainland travel.
Each BusinessFirst customer will be awarded a fictional brokerage account of $10,000, and can select up to 10 stocks listed on the New York Stock Exchange. The portfolios' performance will then be measured over 30 days beginning on the date of entry, with the last tracking period ending on December 19, 1993. The customer with the "most valuable" fictional portfolio at the conclusion of the promotion will win six months of mainland domestic travel in BusinessFirst class on transcontinental flights or First Class on other domestic routes. The runner up will receive two round trip transcontinental BusinessFirst tickets.
Service begins this week with 70 weekly trips between the east and west coasts.
"Now flying coast-to-coast can be as enjoyable as flying to Europe. The relaxing in-flight time in BusinessFirst across the country will enable customers to arrive at their destinations refreshed and ready to resume their busy schedules -- whether they test their stock picking acumen or simply enjoy the flight," said Donald G. Valentine, Senior Vice President of Marketing and Sales.
Each entry will be tabulated by Siegel, Sacks & Co., P.C. under the supervision of Gary Press, and winners will be announced on January 10, 1994.
Continental's BusinessFirst service recently received accolades from both Conde Naste Traveler and Entrepreneur Magazine. Business travelers will now have access to the award-winning BusinessFirst service formerly offered only on international routes.
BusinessFirst service is now available between Newark and Los Angeles and between Newark and San Francisco, as well as Continental's European destinations: London, Paris, Frankfurt, Munich and Madrid and on most flights to Honolulu.
