 CHICAGO, Oct. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Continental Bank Corp. (NYSE: CBK)


announced today that Bert A. Getz has been elected to its board of directors.
 Getz has been president and a director of Globe Corp., a diversified investment company in Phoenix, Ariz., since 1974. He is currently developing a 520-acre residential and golf club project known as The Merit Club, near Libertyville, Ill.
 Getz was a vice president of Globe Corp. from 1960 to 1974. He was a director of The Arizona Bank from 1970 to 1986 and of Security Pacific Corporation, Security Pacific National Bank and two affiliates from 1986 to 1992.
 Getz, who was born May 7, 1937, in Chicago, has familial ties to Continental Bank through his grandfather, George F. Getz, who was a director and executive committee member of City National Bank & Trust Co., which merged with Continental in 1961.
 From 1965 to 1981, Getz was the majority owner and a director of three Chicago-area national banks, First National Bank of Belvidere, Upper Avenue National Bank of Chicago and First National Bank of Winnetka. From 1981 to 1985, he was a director of the Federal National Mortgage Association.
 He was also president of the board of trustees of The Lawrenceville School, Princeton, N.J., from 1984 to 1990, and chairman of the board of directors of the Arizona Community Foundation from 1981 to 1989.
 Getz's affiliations include director or trustee of: Ameritas Life Insurance Corp., Lincoln, Neb.; CalMat Co., Los Angeles; Dean Foods Company, Franklin Park, Ill.; Iliff, Thorn & Company, San Francisco; American Graduate School of International Management, Glendale, Ariz.; and the Mayo Foundation, Rochester, Minn.
 Getz becomes the eighth outside director on Continental's board, bringing the total number to 10. The other outside directors are: James W. Cozad, former chairman and chief executive officer of Whitman Corporation; Robert B. Goergen, chairman of several companies, including Blyth Industries, Inc.; Roger H. Morley, former president and director of American Express Company; Linda Johnson Rice, president and chief operating officer of Johnson Publishing Company, Inc.; John M. Richman, of counsel to the law firm of Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz; Gordon I. Segal, president and chief executive officer, Crate & Barrel; and James L. Vincent, chairman of the board, chief executive officer and chief operating officer of Biogen, Inc.
 The inside directors are: Chairman Thomas C. Theobald and Vice Chairman Richard L. Huber.
