CONTINENTAL AIRLINES STARTS DAILY SERVICE FROM NEWARK TO MUNICH
NEWARK, N.J., June 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Continental Airlines today inaugurated daily, non-stop service from Newark International Airport to Munich, Germany. This is the second German city that Continental now serves from Newark, and brings the number of European destinations it serves from Newark to five, including: London, Paris, Madrid, Frankfurt and now Munich.
The airline also inaugurated new international, non-stop service from its Houston hub to Paris, and Leon and Chihauhau, both in Mexico.
"German reunification and its growth as the business capital of the continent were key factors in our decision to expand service into Munich at this time," said Continental City Vice President Rich Lisser, who heads the airlines operations at Newark.
"Additionally, there is little direct service to the Munich market from the U.S. Our feeder system will enable passengers from as far as Los Angeles and Chicago to connect via our Newark hub," he added.
Lisser was joined at the ceremony by New Jersey Commerce Commissioner Barbara McConnell, Newark Mayor Sharpe James, and Richard Schoon, president of The Greater Newark Chamber of Commerce.
They heralded Continental's announcement as a further commitment of the airline to New Jersey, and as a sign of the growing importance of Newark as a premier international gateway in the region.
Continental's daily flight will depart Newark at 6:35 p.m. and arrives in Munich at 8:40 a.m. Daily service from Munich departs at 10:45 a.m. and arrives in Newark at 1:35 p.m.
Continental Airlines is Newark International Airport's largest carrier, moving nearly 11 million passengers, annually, through Terminal C on its 265 daily jet and commuter flights. The airline currently flies to 68 destinations from Newark.
