CONTINENTAL AIRLINES NAMES DANIEL P. GARTON AS CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER, PROMOTES JOHN E. LUTH

 HOUSTON, May 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Continental Airlines, Inc., today announced that Daniel P. Garton is joining the airline as senior vice president and chief financial officer, reporting directly to President and Chief Executive Officer Robert R. Ferguson III.
 Garton was most recently vice president of financial planning and analysis for American Airlines, and had previously served as treasurer for that carrier. While at American Airlines, Garton was responsible for raising $15 billion in new capital.
 Garton holds an undergraduate degree from Stanford University, and a masters of business administration from the Johnson School of Management at Cornell University. He is married and has three children.
 John E. Luth has been promoted to senior vice president - restructuring,
also reporting to Ferguson. Luth was most recently senior vice president and chief financial officer for the airline, a position he had held since July 1992. Luth joined Continental Airlines in August 1989 as vice president and treasurer.
 Later, as vice president - corporate development, he headed Continental's successful reorganization and consolidation of the 53 companies comprising the former Continental Airlines Holdings, Inc., and also was instrumental in the solicitation of new equity investors.
