CONSUMERS POWER PRODUCES GERMAN LANGUAGE VIDEO

JACKSON, Mich., April 19 /PRNewswire/ -- A new first-of-its-kind German language video produced by Consumers Power Company promoting German investment in Michigan hopes to add to the over 100 German manufacturing facilities already operating in the state.
The video, "Advantage: Michigan!" ("Vorteil: Michigan!") will premiere Thursday, April 22, and Tuesday, April 27, at the Hannover Trade Fair in Germany. The Trade Fair draws more than 500,000 prominent European business leaders and is the largest single economic development event in the world. Consumers Power is joining other Michigan economic development representatives at the Trade Fair for the second year and created a video specifically crafted to attract the interest of the German business community.
The video features testimonials about Michigan's strengths as a place to do business by Peter Kaub, president of Pierburg Instruments, Inc., Clinton Township, Macomb County; Dr. Heinz Etzel, president of Behr Industries Corporation, Comstock Park, near Grand Rapids; Erina Hanka, president of Suspa, Inc., Grand Rapids; Martin Stark, president of Bekum American Corporation, Williamston, near Lansing; and, Christian Mueller, vice president, sales, American Fibrit, Inc., Battle Creek.
"Michigan is coming to be seen by the international business community as a world-class place in which to make products and find skilled employees," said Fred Buckman, Consumers Power's president and chief executive officer, who appears in the video. "Many European companies are very pleased to learn that they can produce products of the same quality here but at lower costs than they can in Europe," said Buckman.
"The advantage, I would say, in Michigan is that the land is relatively inexpensive, energy is less expensive than in Europe, and naturally the market is here," Erina Hanka, president of Suspa, Inc., tells video viewers. Suspa, Inc. manufactures cylinders for the automotive, furniture and durable goods industries.
Martin Stark, president of Bekum America Corporation, says on the video that his firm has received purchase orders in the past two years from Germany, England and recently, South Africa. Bekum America Corporation is a subsidiary of Bekum Plastics Machinery, one of the largest blow-molding machine manufacturers in the world.
"Two years ago we relocated the company to Michigan because we found out that the production costs are more favorable here in Michigan, that we are closer to customers, that we can serve the customers quicker, such as service activities and product delivery, that the cost of labor is more favorable by 20 to 30 percent," Peter Kaub, president of Pierburg Instruments, Inc., says on the video.
Battle Creek's American Fibrit, Inc. is also featured on the video. "The main reasons that have caused our firm to settle in Michigan are, for one, the infrastructure, one could say, is much better here than in any other state of the United States," says Christian Mueller, vice president of sales for the firm. For 15 years American Fibrit has been producing interior trim for the automotive industry.
In addition to Consumers Power, economic developers from Grand Rapids, Lansing and Muskegon will be working at the fair to assist German companies with their location evaluations of Michigan.
Consumers Power Company, the principal subsidiary of CMS Energy Corporation (NYSE: CMS), is Michigan's largest natural gas and electric utility serving almost 6 million of the state's 9 million residents in 67 of the 68 Lower Peninsula counties.
