CONSUMERS COMPETE FOR FREE CRUISES IN NATIONAL CRUISE VACATION MONTH SWEEPSTAKES

NEW YORK, Jan. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- "It's the best vacation there is," said consumer Dave Garner, referring to the recent cruise he took to Alaska as a result of winning last year's National Cruise Vacation Months sweepstakes sponsored by Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA).
CLIA, the cruise industry's trade and marketing organization, will be giving away 122 free cruise vacations for two -- one on each of its member cruise lines' vessels -- in a similar sweepstakes this year as part of the celebrated month-long National Cruise Vacation Month 1993 promotion.
Consumers can enter the sweepstakes by completing and sending in the "Choose to Cruise" quiz that will appear in the Jan. 25, 1993 issue of Newsweek and the February issue of Travel Holiday, both of which feature CLIA's special 28-page section on cruising. They can also obtain an entry form by visiting their CLIA-affiliated travel agency, the one that display's the association's blue, gold and white seal.
"That's how I entered the contest," said Garner, an accountant who visited his local travel agency in Whithall, Ark., and filled out the National Cruise Vacation Month "Choose to Cruise" quiz entry form. Garner was one of over 130,000 consumers who took part in the 1992 sweepstakes and CLIA expects even greater participation this year.
The "Choose to Cruise" quiz contains five true-or-false questions. Answers can be found by reading the articles in the special section that cover everything from how to choose the cruise that's right for you to the incredible range of lifestyles, interests and budgets today's cruise ships cater to, with a similarly diverse range of activities, itineraries and fares.
Participants should complete the "Choose to Cruise" quiz entry form and send it to the address listed on the reply card; all entries must be received by March 12, 1993. Winners will be selected in a random drawing among those who have answered the quiz questions correctly on March 26; they will be notified by mail.
And would winner Dave Garner choose to cruise again? "Yes, this was my third cruise. Cruising is a wonderful experience -- a value- and fun-filled vacation...I never have any worries."
Another of last year's sweepstakes winners, Don Anderson, a first- time cruiser from Winchester, Va., agrees. "I'm hooked on cruising now and will probably go again next year."
The "Choose to Cruise" sweepstakes is an integral part of National Cruise Vacation Month, now in its third year and considered one of the travel industry's most successful promotions. For more information on the sweepstakes, contact one of the more than 20,000 CLIA-affiliated travel agencies in North America.
