CONSUMER REPORTS IGNORES FAST FOOD INDUSTRY'S LOWEST FAT PRODUCTS IN RECENT RATINGS

 Chick-fil-A Products Lower in Fat
Than All Major Competitors' Products Included in Comparison
ATLANTA, Sept. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- When Consumer Reports published its ratings of the fast food poultry sandwiches in its September 1993 issue, it failed to include the fast food industry's lowest fat items.
According to Atlanta-based Chick-fil-A, Inc., the nation's third- largest quick-service chicken restaurant company, its sandwiches are lower in percentage of calories from fat and total fat grams than any of the sandwiches included in the comparison.
The lowest fat sandwich included in the Consumer Reports data has 21 percent of calories from fat. By comparison, the Chick-fil-A Chargrilled Chicken Sandwich(R) and Chargrilled Deluxe Chicken Sandwich have only 17 percent of calories from fat -- nearly 20 percent less fat than the published winner...a turkey sandwich. The Original Chick-fil- A(R) boneless breast of chicken sandwich equaled the best rated product in the comparison at 21 percent of calories from fat.
The Consumer Reports data compared nutritional values of several products from fast food chains including Arby's, Burger King, Hardee's, McDonald's and Wendy's. The following chart provides the data from Consumer Reports' "Fast Food For Fat-Watchers" brand-name ratings. The Chick-fil-A nutritional data is shown above the top four brands.
Atlanta-based Chick-fil-A, Inc. operates 500 restaurants in 31 states and has projected sales growth to reach $1 billion by 2000 from its 1992 mark of $356 million.
