CONSUMAT ANNOUNCES REQUEST FOR NASDAQ EXTENSION DENIED

RICHMOND, Va., Jan. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Consumat Systems, Inc., (NASDAQ: CSMTC) announced today that an exception previously granted to the Company by the NASDAQ Stock Market had expired and that a request for an extension was denied. The exception had been based on a schedule for closing the pending sale of the Company's subsidiary, Consumat Sanco, Inc. by Dec. 31, 1992. However the closing has been delayed to March 31, 1993. Consequently, the Company's stock will be delisted from the NASDAQ Small-Cap Market, effective Jan. 6, 1993.
Consumat Systems announced previously that it has agreed to sell 100 percent of Consumat Sanco to National Waste Industries, Inc. Consumat Sanco owns and operates a landfill in Bethlehem, N.H. The sale is part of Consumat Systems' restructuring efforts whereby the Company is refocusing on its core business, the design and manufacturing of controlled air incineration systems and related air pollution control equipment. Consumat Systems sells principally to the medical and commercial markets.
The Company's stock will continue to be traded on NASDAQ's Bulletin Board, however, prices will no longer be quoted in the daily NASDAQ stock listings. Shareholders seeking to buy or sell Consumat stock should contact their broker for current prices and procedures. The Company is currently appealing NASDAQ's denial of its request for an extension.
