CONSOLIDATED STORES CORPORATION REPORTS FEBRUARY SALES INCREASE OF 3.8 PERCENT TO A RECORD $55.2 MILLION

 /REPEATING FOR NEEDED POINTS/
COLUMBUS, Ohio, March 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Consolidated Stores

Corporation (NYSE: CNS) today reported that for the fiscal month ended Feb. 27, 1993, retail sales totaled a record $55.2 million, a 3.8 percent increase above retail sales of $53.2 million for the 1992 period. February comparable store sales for stores open two years at the beginning of the fiscal year declined 8.9 percent.
Commenting on the results, William G. Kelley, chairman, president and chief executive officer stated, "Our sales in February this year were negatively affected by winter storms in many of our markets during each of the last two weeks of the month. Sales were on plan for the first two weeks of February, and have returned to plan in early March. In addition, comparable sales were planned to be lower than last year which benefited from a special electronics event not repeated. In spite of the weather we are comfortable that our expectations for the first quarter and beyond will be achieved."
Consolidated Stores Corporation, a leading retailer and wholesaler of close-out merchandise, operated 382 Odd Lots and Big Lots specialty retail stores and 161 All For One single price point retail stores at Feb. 27, 1993.
