CONSOLIDATED STORES CORPORATION REPORTS AN 8.6 PERCENT COMPARABLE STORE SALES INCREASE ON RECORD $78.7 MILLION RETAIL SALES FOR SEPTEMBER

 COLUMBUS, Ohio, Sept. 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Consolidated Stores Corporation (NYSE: CNS) today reported that for the four weeks ended Sept. 25, 1993, retail sales increased 18.7 percent to a record $78.7 million compared to retail sales of $66.3 million for the same 1992 period. Retail sales for the first eight months of 1993 increased 13.9 percent to a record of $587.1 million in comparison to retail sales of $515.6 million for the 1992 period. Comparable store sales for stores open two full years increased 8.6 percent for the month and 2.3 percent for the year-to-date period.
 Consolidated Stores Corporation, a leading retailer and wholesaler of close-out merchandise, operated 416 ODD LOTS and BIG LOTS specialty retail stores and 171 ALL FOR ONE single-price-point retail stores at Sept. 25, 1993.
