CONSOLIDATED NATURAL GAS ANNOUNCES INITIAL PRODUCTION RATES AT NEW GULF OF MEXICO GAS FIND

PITTSBURGH, Nov. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Consolidated Natural Gas Company said today that its first well at South Marsh Island Block 154 in the Gulf of Mexico has been placed on production at a stabilized rate of over 160 million cubic feet of gas and 2,400 barrels of condensate per day. The well maintained a flowing tubing pressure of 2,300 psi.
CNG Producing Company, a Consolidated subsidiary, and The Louisiana Land & Exploration Company each own a 50 percent working interest in the well. CNG is the operator of the block.
The discovery at the site was announced in June, and the production platform, moved from an abandoned location in the Gulf, was installed in September, allowing production to be initiated quickly.
SMI 154 is about 170 miles southwest of New Orleans. The well was drilled in 246 feet of water, and produced from a pay sand approximately 200 feet thick at a depth of over 14,400 feet. At a sustained rate in excess of 60 million cubic feet per day, the well is currently CNG Producing Company's largest producer. Two additional wells are now being drilled simultaneously to test the potential of deeper zones in the field.
Consolidated Natural Gas Company is one of the country's largest producers, transporters, and distributors of natural gas. Its primary marketing areas are in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia, New York and other states in Northeast. The company explores for and produces gas and oil throughout the United States and Canada.
