CONSILIUM ANNOUNCES INTENT TO PORT WORKSTREAM OPEN TO DIGITAL'S NEW COMPUTER SYSTEM

 SAN FRANCISCO, Aug. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Consilium Inc. (NASDAQ: CSIM), the leading supplier of manufacturing executive system (MES) software and services, today announced its intent to supply WorkStream Open on Digital Equipment Corp.'s (NYSE: DEC) DEC OSF/1 operating system. Consilium is already porting WorkStream Open to Digital's Alpha OpenVMS operating system with initial availability planned for late 1993.
 WorkStream Open is a series of integrated software modules that direct the execution of the manufacturing plan on the factory floor. This enables lot-based manufacturers to reduce cost, improve quality, achieve just-in-time delivery and facilitate equipment automation. WorkStream Open on the DEC OSF/1 operating system will be available early 1994.

WorkStream Open on Alpha AXP offers our customers investment protection on Digital's leading price performance platform," said Peter Rieman, Consilium's vice president, Discrete Products Division.
 Alpha AXP is Digital's open 64-bit RISC computing architecture, designed to support fast uniprocessor and multiprocessor implementations that are scalable from palmtop to supercomputer. Alpha AXP supports multiple operating systems including OpenVMS, DEC OSF/1 and Windows NT, to provide a breadth of applications to a broad range of markets.
