CONCORD GLOBAL DOES AREA RUGS WRIGHT.
NEW YORK-Concord Global Trading brings a powerful license to the New York home textiles market this week with the introduction of Frank Lloyd Wright machine-made area rugs.
Gulben Aksu, vice president of Concord Global Trading, said her company made the connection to the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation through Costikyan Carpets, which already has the Wright license for handmade rugs.
Aksu said the company will show samples for eight different designs, which will go into production following the textiles market and be available for shipment in about two months. Suggested retail for an approximate 5-by-8 will be $299.
"We want to test the reaction to the different designs and colors, and then we'll go ahead with production," Aksu said, adding how well known Wright is as both architect and artist. "The Frank Lloyd Wright designs are totally unusual," she said. "There is nothing out there in the machine-made business like these designs."
Concord Global will work with the foundation in recreating the Wright designs, many of which have already been made in handmade versions by Costikyan. For example, Liberty Balloons, shown on page 64, was designed by the architect for a magazine circa 1927.
Aksu said it is Wright's widespread appeal that makes the availability of lower-priced rugs bearing his designs important. "There are so many houses out there based on his style and now there are rugs in all ranges to complement them," she said. "With this line, we are able to give more service to [the opening] end of the market."
