CONCEPT OMEGA CHANGES NAME TO THOROUGHBRED SOFTWARE INTERNATIONAL
SOMERSET, N.J., Jan. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Because of the popularity of its Thoroughbred(R) brand software and its rapidly growing sales overseas, Concept Omega(R) Corporation is changing its name to Thoroughbred Software International, Inc. (TSI).
"At over 150,000 installations around the world, people have come to think of us as Thoroughbred," said Carmen Randazzo, TSI chief operating officer. "It's a terrific image and one we can trade on."
"We're essentially a language company" added TSI founder and president John-L Johnson, the creator of the innovative software that has given TSI its marketing edge. "And today that language must be global."
"More than 45 percent of TSI's software is now sold for export to Europe and Canada and ventures have just been opened in Mexico, Chile, and Venezuela," Randazzo said.
He contends TSI succeeds not only because its software performs on about 50 different operating systems -- such as DOS, UNIX, VMS, and XENIX -- but also because of the software's ability to solve problems facing end-users.
Applied across a broad spectrum of business and industry, TSI software is designed for database management systems, and accounting applications and office automation.
"We are the only company in the world, apart from IBM, that offers all this," said E. Terence Bradunas, TSI vice president of consulting services. And TSI backs this up with a full breadth of consulting services as well.
Founded originally as Data Technologies Industries in 1975, the company was acquired by Science Management Corporation in 1979, then Concept Omega Corporation in 1982. It has grown so rapidly in recent years that it made Inc. magazine's "500" list in 1988 as the 20th fastest-growing, privately held company in the nation.
"We've expanded because our various software products provide the foundation upon which virtually any imaginable industry-specific software application can be created," Randazzo said.
TSI software is sold to TSI's 1,200 value added resellers (VARs) in 40 countries who put it to work on a wide variety of hardware environments. They market it to end-users in every field of activity either "as is" or by designing specific solutions sought by the end- users.
To support its worldwide marketing, TSI software is published in 10 different languages: English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Dutch, Swedish, Norwegian, Danish, and Finish. It is also usable with such non-Roman character set languages as Arabic, Thai, and Korean.
Thoroughbred is a registered trademark of Thoroughbred Software International, Inc. VMS is a registered trademark of Digital Equipment Corporation. DOS and XENIX are registered trademarks of Microsoft Corporation. UNIX is a registered trademark of UNIX System Laboratories, Inc.

Other Thoroughbred Software "firsts" included MBOS, now Thoroughbred/OS, as the first multi-user operating system for the IBM/PCs and compatibles.
As word of the power, simplicity, and elegance of Thoroughbred's products spread through the small-to-mid-sized business marketplace, Thoroughbred became the 20th fastest-growing company on Inc. magazine's "500" list.
