ANN ARBOR, Mich., Nov. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Comshare, Incorporated (NASDAQ-NMS: CSRE), the leader in executive information systems and business intelligence applications, today announced it is planning to provide support for IBM's (NYSE: IBM) S/390(R) parallel query server. Comshare expects to support the S/390 parallel query server when it is released or announced in 1994.
Comshare customers have relied on DB2(R) data for three major application requirements. First, they frequently use Comshare software for transforming raw SQL data into high-value, meaningful information via Comshare's SQL Pipeline to DB2. Second, an increasing number of Comshare customers provide "Slice-n-Dice" multidimensional access to DB2 data for profit management applications using Execu-View/SQL. Third, they use DB2 as the repository for their corporate Decision Support and modeling data. All of these users benefit from the reduced cost of computing and improved performance offered by IBM's parallel query server.
"Comshare sees promise in the opportunity presented by S/390 parallel query server," said Dennis Ganster, vice president of product development. "As the leader in the market for executive information systems, we see our customers looking for more cost-effective access to larger and larger databases. This is a major step in the right direction for S/390 customers.
"Another very positive aspect of IBM's strategy is its preservation of existing investments. As an independent software vendor, we applaud IBM for providing this innovative technology while preserving our investment, and our customers' investment, in S/390 applications."
Comshare is also interested in supporting IBM's UNIX parallel processing technology. "POWERParallel is very attractive to our banking and insurance customers," said Ganster. "Comshare will be enthusiastically following IBM's direction with POWERParallel in the future."
Comshare is a full-service, international software company that develops, supports and markets business intelligence applications, such as financial reporting and consolidation, profit management reporting, enterprise budgeting and management reporting, as well as executive information systems (EIS). Founded in 1966 with headquarters in Ann Arbor, the company has an installed customer base of more than 2,000 organizations worldwide and is one of the top 50 independent software vendors according to annual rankings by several computer magazines.
