COMPUWARE AND IBM FORM PROFESSIONAL SERVICES ALLIANCE

 FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich., July 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Compuware Corporation (NASDAQ-NMS: CPWR) and IBM Corporation (NYSE: IBM) today announced the formation of an alliance to market and provide professional services such as systems integration and customized software development to small- and medium-sized businesses in a five- state area.
 The unique arrangement will provide professional resources to fulfill the information technology skills that are in high demand in the fast-growing segment of the services business. The marketing activities will start immediately in the Detroit area and subsequently expand to other cities in Michigan, Kentucky, Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia.
 "This relationship is the first of its kind for IBM locally and represents the company's efforts to select partners in the segments in which IBM is focused," said J. Michael Lawrie, vice president and area general manager, IBM. "This, in combination with our other business partners, will provide a more comprehensive set of offerings to this growing marketplace."
 He noted that Compuware was selected to participate in the alliance because of its "exceptional ability to deliver quality services in a cost-effective manner."
 According to John N. Shevillo, chief operating officer of Compuware's Professional Services Division, "The alliance marries the strengths of two outstanding information systems companies -- IBM's well-developed client base and Compuware's 20 years of experience in training, conversions and systems development and implementation."
 In addition to offering a broad range of data processing professional services, Compuware Corporation develops, markets and supports an integrated set of systems software products which improves the productivity of programmers and analysts in application program testing, test data preparation, error analysis and maintenance.
