COMPUTONE ANNOUNCES RECORD $26.9 MILLION REVENUES FOR FISCAL YEAR
ENDED MARCH 31, 1992; SETS PATH FOR CONTINUED GROWTH FOR FISCAL 1993
ROSWELL, Ga., May 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Computone Corporation (NASDAQ: CTON) today announced preliminary financial results for its fiscal year ended March 31, 1992. Revenues for the three and 12 months ending March 31, 1992 approximated $8.0 million and $26.9 million, respectively, compared to $4.7 million and $19.6 million for the comparable periods in the prior year.
According to the company's president, Thomas P. Tanis Jr., "While earnings for the fourth quarter were approximately breakeven, after-tax earnings for the 12 months from continuing operations will approach $900,000. This compares to a loss of $651,000 for the prior 12-month period. Further, the company will post an after-tax charge of $300,000 from discontinued operations in the fourth quarter and a $1.1 million after-tax gain from a debt repurchase."
Tanis further stated, "The significant investment in engineering and marketing impacted fourth quarter profitability; however, we went on to culminate the design and successful introduction of the company's state- of-the-art IntelliPort II family of Unix based I/O subsystems. This increase in the engineering effort, coupled with an aggressive introductory marketing program, drove this successful launch of the IntelliPort II family. It also set the final stage of engineering, prototype production and initial roll-out of the company's synchronous subsystems, including the MPA960 and MPA 2 as well as the Token Ring version and client-server model for its Lynxware 3270 emulation software family."
In closing, Tanis said, "The success of fiscal 1992 can be principally summarized through our approximate 38 percent increase in revenue growth, while undertaking the complete roll-out of our asynchronous product families through the IntelliPort II and IntelliPort II EX. With our turnaround activities now behind us, we believe we are positioned to expand our historic asynchronous markets and execute plans for further penetration into the mainframe access synchronous market in order to continue the growth of Computone as a principal supplier of UNIX-based connectivity solutions for the 1990s."
Computone Corporation offers the world's most extensive line of intelligent I/O subsystems for microcomputers, UNIX to SNA software connectivity solutions, X.25 gateways, TCP/IP routers, and Fax software for UNIX.
