COMPUTER RESEARCH REPORTS IMPROVED FIRST-QUARTER RESULTS

PITTSBURGH, Jan. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Computer Research, Inc. (NASDAQ: CORE) today reported net income of $14,228 or .00 cents per share for the three-month period ended Nov. 30, 1993, compared to a loss of $320,391 or a loss of 8 cents per share for the first quarter last year.
Revenues for the three-month period were $1,286,802 compared to $1,079,064 for the previous year, an increase of about 19 percent.
Computer Research provides data processing accounting and recordkeeping services for securities broker/dealers, banks and other financial institutions throughout the United States. It also markets communications and computer equipment to customers of the service business.
Company President James L. Schultz said the improvement in revenues for the first quarter was due primarily to an increase of about 26 percent in data processing service revenues resulting from the addition of eight new clients during the past year. He said revenues for the first three months of the previous year had decreased about 9 percent due to the loss of a major client at the beginning of the period.
"It's great to be back in the black," Schultz said, "especially since we were able to do it by generating new customers to overcome the loss."
He said several of the new clients are using the company's new proprietary software services for financial institutions.
"The past several months have been very encouraging and the outlook appears to be positive as well," Schultz said. "We expect to be able to announce additional new business in the near future, including an arrangement with a major clearing firm to provide customized accounting reports to its correspondents and contracts to provide specialized data processing services for two major banks."
