COMPUTER NETWORK TECHNOLOGY AND DATA/WARE ANNOUNCE CERTIFICATION
 OF CHANNEL-EXTENDED OPTICAL STORAGE DEVICES
MINNEAPOLIS, May 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Computer Network Technology Corporation (NASDAQ-NMS: CMNT) (CNT) and Data/Ware Development, Inc. today announced they have successfully completed interoperability tests between Data/Ware's DW34850 OSS(TM) (Optical Storage System) and CNT's CHANNELink(TM) line of extended channel networking products.
The tests were conducted at the Data/Ware development center in San Diego, Calif., and showed that the DW34850 OSS was successfully channel extended using several standard IBM mainframe channels including 1.5 MBps DCI, 3.0 data streaming and 4.5 MBps data streaming. The tests simulated propagation delays equivalent to distances ranging from zero to 2,000 miles.
Bill Bloomberg, a product manager for Data/Ware, said, "It is a good combination; many of our customers are looking for a means of providing wide-area access to the tremendous volumes of archive data that the DW34850 OSS handles, and CHANNELink provides this connectivity." Ellis Nolley, CNT product marketing manager, said, "Our customers are asking for channel-networking that can support all popular mass storage devices on a single network, and optical storage is an important part of the mass storage market."
Data/Ware is a San Diego-based manufacturer of IBM-compatible mainframe channel-attached Optical Storage Systems, (OSS) and I/O channel test equipment, including Channel Emulators, Channel Monitors, and Channel Interface Systems for S/370 and S/390 ESCON channels. Data/Ware is located at 9449 Carroll Park Drive, San Diego, Calif., 92121; the phone number is 619-453-7660.
Computer Network Technology Corporation develops, manufactures and markets high-speed Extended Channel Networking products for the interconnection of mainframe computers, data base computers and peripheral devices over unlimited distances. The company's common stock is traded on the NASDAQ National Market System under the symbol CMNT.
