COMPUSERVE INFORMATION MANAGER PRE-INSTALLED ON PERSONAL COMPUTERS FROM THREE VENDORS

COLUMBUS, Ohio, Aug. 3, /PRNewswire/ -- CompuServe Information Manager (CIM), the graphical interface for the CompuServe Information Service, is now available pre-installed on the hard drives of personal computers from PC Brand, Inc., Swan Technologies and Advanced Logic Research, Inc. (ALR). CIM provides purchasers of these PCs with instant access to CompuServe, the leading worldwide online information service, and its 1.3 million members.
Using windows, pull-down menus and dialog boxes, CIM makes it easy to access and use the information on CompuServe. CIM is available in versions for the Macintosh, MS-DOS and Windows platforms.
A guide to CompuServe and a special membership offer are included in each CIM bundle. New CompuServe members receive one free month of unlimited usage of CompuServe's 47 basic services and a $15 usage credit Swan now bundles CIM for MS-DOS (DOSCIM) on all its computers. PC Brand and ALR are shipping some models with DOSCIM and some with CIM for Windows (WinCIM). All three companies provide support for their products on CompuServe's PC Vendors Forum.
"Putting CIM on the hard drives of these well-known brands is a highly effective way to bring CompuServe to PC users, while also providing increased visibility to both marketing partners," said CompuServe marketing manager Doug Martin. "At the same time, it benefits the manufacturers by putting product support within easy reach of their customers -- literally a point and click away."
CompuServe members pay $8.95 per month for unlimited connect-time use of basic services such as news, weather and sports, travel reservation information, home shopping and Consumer Reports. When accessing any of the other services on CompuServe, members pay $8 per hour for 1200 or 2400 bits-per-second (bps) access and $16 per hour for 9600 bps access.
Established in 1979, the CompuServe Information Service provides its worldwide membership of more than 1.3 million with databases and services to meet the needs of both business and personal interests. CompuServe can be accessed by any modem-equipped personal computer utilizing CIM or any general communications software.
In addition to the CompuServe Information Service, CompuServe Incorporated provides frame relay, wide and local area networking services, business information services and software to major corporations and government agencies worldwide.
