COMPUSERVE/COLLIER-JACKSON AND Q-CIM INK JOINT VENTURE AGREEMENT

TAMPA, Fla., April 27 /PRNewswire/ -- CompuServe/Collier-Jackson today announced a joint venture with Q-CIM, Inc., international supplier of enterprise software solutions for process manufacturers. Under the terms of the agreement, CompuServe/Collier-Jackson will sell and market the Q-CIM product line. Q-CIM, based in Princeton, N.J., will retain ownership of the software and responsibility for ongoing product enhancements and customer support.
"Over 50 percent of our customer base is in the manufacturing sector," said Warren Fletcher, chief executive officer and general manager of the CompuServe subsidiary. "The addition of Q-CIM lets us offer customers a totally integrated, enterprise-wide solution that addresses everything from accounting and human resources to quality management, production control and activity based costing."
Q-CIM, like CompuServe/Collier-Jackson, cut its teeth on Hewlett- Packard's midrange systems and is moving to UNIX versions on both HP's and IBM's midrange computers.
"The fact that Collier-Jackson's open and portable development strategies coincided with ours was very important," says Wayne Wasylyk, president of Q-CIM, "as was their experience and depth in the manufacturing marketplace. Collier-Jackson's accounting and HR software have already helped leverage sales for us in the past, and I've always been impressed with the caliber of their executive management team and sales force."
Both CompuServe/Collier-Jackson and Q-CIM are designated Premier Software Suppliers by Hewlett-Packard. Collier-Jackson is also an Industry Remarketer for IBM and Cooperative Marketing Partner with Digital Equipment Corporation.
Collier-Jackson is already stepping up marketing efforts to the manufacturing industry with plans to break print media and direct mail campaigns in mid-May and June around SYNCHRONICITY/93, a new international conference and exposition focusing on improving responsiveness, quality and productivity in manufacturing.
"Synchronicity is not only timely but a good vehicle for us as we are showcasing our event-based costing software and the importance of its integration with general ledger," says Fletcher, noting that the software solves some of the problems to be discussed at the conference.
The newest Q-CIM product is Event Based Costing Software, which monitors costing for all events associated with a process manufacturing product. The software provides processing plants with an easy to use system that responds to customers' needs for traditional process, standardized accounting and advanced cost management techniques. Benefits of the system include:
-- details on why and where variances occur.
-- simultaneous support of accounting and operational costing.
-- complete tracing of all events.
-- profitability by product, process and plant.
 -- assessment on day-to-day and long-term decisions.
-- make/buy and volume capacity decisions.
 -- scientific pricing policies.
CompuServe/Collier-Jackson's World Class Series Accounting and Human Resources software will continue as cross-industry product lines.
CompuServe is a leading computer communications, software and information services company based in Columbus, Ohio. More than 3,000 of Collier-Jackson's systems are installed at more than 1,000 sites in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Italy, Great Britain, New Zealand and Singapore.
