COMPUADD COMPUTER CORPORATION SLASHES PC PRICES UP TO 23 PERCENT

AUSTIN, Texas, March 22 /PRNewswire/ -- CompuAdd Computer Corporation, in a move that reflects one of the PC industry's lowest cost structures and a commitment to strengthen its leadership position in value for the price, today reduced prices across its product line by as much as 23 percent.
The price cuts include the top-of-the-line, EISA-based CompuAdd 466EDX2 tower unit -- cut from $4,856 to $3,795 -- and the CompuAdd 433DX configured in the popular desktop power chassis -- reduced from $2,912 to $2,595.
The steepest reduction, 23 percent, was aimed at the CompuAdd 466DX2 configured in a desktop power chassis. With six drive bays, eight expansion slots, 8MB RAM, 256K high-speed cache, 340MB hard drive, dual floppy drives, a 15-inch super VGA color monitor and the CompuAdd Viper local bus accelerator with 2MB VRAM, the price was reduced from $3,871 to $2,995.
"This is the first in a series of aggressive steps we've planned as CompuAdd begins the transition to a 100-percent direct marketing company," said CEO Bill H. Hayden. On March 15, the company announced it would withdraw from its retail business by year-end and focus exclusively on direct marketing, the PC industry's most efficient channel of distribution.
