COMPTEK ANNOUNCES FCC APPROVAL OF DATAMOVER 2000
COMPTEK ANNOUNCES FCC APPROVAL OF DATAMOVER 2000 BUFFALO, N.Y., April 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Comptek Research, Inc.
(AMEX/BSE: CTK) announced Federal Communication Commission approval for domestic sale of the DataMover 2000, a device that uses patented technology to allow banks to bypass land-based telephone data lines and connect their automated teller machines through reliable, low-cost wireless radio networks.
The DataMover 2000 is manufactured and maintained by Comptek subsidiaries and marketed through its joint venture, Bison Data Corporation. FCC's granting the DataMover 2000 "type acceptance" means that Bison Data Corporation can begin marketing the device for use in the United States. The FCC approval permits operations within a frequency range of 928-960 Mhz using either 12.5 Khz or 25 Khz channel spacing. An FCC license is required for the operation of a metropolitan area network utilizing radio frequency technology and the 928-960 Mhz range is the standard frequency for multiple address systems (MAS) in the U.S. Currently, Comptek holds MAS licenses in Buffalo, Rochester, Albany, Syracuse, and Detroit. In addition, Comptek has been granted a Special Temporary Authority ("STA") from the FCC to set up MAS networks for demonstration purposes anywhere in the United States from April 1 through September 30, 1992. The STA permits the technology to be demonstrated in a customer select location subject to coordination with the local FCC engineering office. Comptek is currently making arrangements with network operators in several metropolitan areas where the DataMover products may be put into use. "Over 1,400 DataMover units are already on order from distributors and customers in Central and South America, and the Pacific Rim," said Dr. John R. Cummings, Comptek's chairman, president, and chief executive officer. "With FCC approval now, the device can be marketed in the United States." Comptek Research, Inc., with thirteen offices and subsidiary locations in the United States, develops command, control, communications, and intelligence systems and electronic warfare systems, primarily for the Department of Defense. Comptek also provides telecommunications transmission systems and services. Related activities include providing specialized technical services and the manufacturing of precision electronics for commercial applications. -0- 4/27/92 /CONTACT: Christopher A.
