COMPOSITES SHOW OPENS TODAY; FROM SPORTS EQUIPMENT MANUFACTURERS TO THE AEROSPACE INDUSTRY, COMPOSITES IS THE MATERIAL OF CHOICE

PASADENA, Calif., Jan. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- The 1993 Composites in Manufacturing and Tooling for Composites Exposition opens today at the Pasadena Center. Sponsored by the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME), the exposition runs through Wednesday, Jan. 20. The conference schedule also begins today.
Some 50 exhibitors will be displaying products, processes, and services for use in a variety of industries using composites. A composite is a material created from a fiber and an appropriate material. Tooling for composites is essentially a mold to manufacture a composite part.
One exhibiting company is particularly interested in the environment. LowTech Innovations, Inc., San Diego, is displaying the Dust Muzzle. Companies from boat builders to aerospace manufacturers use this dust-collection system to remove airborne pollutants. It's a simple tool that improves the air quality in the workplace and helps companies comply with the new clean-air regulations.
As part of the exposition, the Composites Product Showcase displays innovative use of existing composites and tooling technology. In this arena of outstanding engineering efforts, the Showcase includes uniqueness in materials and innovations in engineering and design.
It features the following companies: ACPT, Inc. (Advanced Composite Products & Technology), Huntington Beach, Calif.; The Boeing Co., Seattle; Grumman Aircraft Systems, Bethpage, N.Y.; Kaiser Niigrafit-- Kaiser Viam, San Leandro, Calif.; and Lockheed Aeronautical Systems Co., Marietta, Ga.
 Show hours are 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, Jan. 18-19, and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 20.
The Tooling for Composites conference sessions begin Monday and run through Tuesday morning with the Composites in Manufacturing sessions opening Tuesday afternoon and concluding Wednesday. All activities are in the Pasadena Center.
