COMPLETING THE JIGSAW; Right Plaza for the best businesses.
THE Millennium Plaza has had a chequered history in its short life - but the final piece of the jigsaw could soon be slotting into place.
Originally due to open in December 2000 the landmark Cardiff building has been beset with delays and difficulties.
But now the pounds 50m project is almost complete.
Phil Morris from property agency EJ Hales says there is 10,000sq ft of free space remaining on the ground floor but the Millennium Plaza is determined to hold out for the right kind of operator to fill it.
'Millennium Plaza's entertainment offer has evolved and matured over the last two years, especially with the addition of the multiplex cinema earlier this year and the growing list of events the building has hosted.
'It is imperative that we wait to install the right kind of operator in the unit to ensure they complement the established brands.
'We have had several advances from a host of different operations over the last 18 months, including restaurants, sports bars, gastro-pubs and even children's crches, but have yet to find a suitable operation to match our aspirations for the space.
'The building speaks for itself - there is a huge opportunity to tap into the Cardiff leisure market as part of this established pitch.'
Originally one of the centrepieces of the project was a health and fitness club but when gym owners Healthland went into receivership, the plaza was faced with its first serious setback.
The 14-screen Ster Century multi-screen cinema was completed in the summer of 2001 but opened two years behind schedule due to contractual wrangles.
