COMPAQ PROMOTES KEY EXECUTIVES TO SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT POSITIONS
HOUSTON, Jan. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Compaq Computer Corporation (NYSE: CPQ) today announced it has promoted three top executives to senior vice presidents. Doug Johns was promoted to senior vice president in addition to previously being named general manager of the company's newly formed Personal Computer Division; Ross A. Cooley was promoted to senior vice president of North America; and Andreas Barth was promoted to senior vice president of Europe.
All three officers report directly to Compaq President and Chief Executive Officer Eckhard Pfeiffer.
"Doug Johns, Ross Cooley and Andreas Barth will play important roles in Compaq's continued leadership in the changing computer marketplace," said Pfeiffer. "Bolstering our global management team and continuing to develop quality PCs and high-performance systems will enable the company to maintain its position as the industry's high-performance leader, providing not only innovative computer hardware, but complete systems solutions and total customer support."
In November 1991 Compaq's newly elected President and CEO Eckhard Pfeiffer outlined the company's new business strategy, establishing two separate product divisions: the PC Division, directed by Doug Johns, and the Systems Division, led by Gary Stimac, senior vice president and general manager.
The promotions of Johns, Cooley and Barth underscore their importance to the company's new focus -- establishing geographic and product divisions that work together to compete effectively in a changing, global marketplace. Doug Johns
Doug Johns is responsible for the development, manufacture and marketing activities for the company's full line of portable and desktop PCs. Johns also will oversee efforts to evaluate new markets, including the home, education and small business market segments, as well as new channels of distribution.
Prior to his appointment as head of Compaq's PC Division in October, Johns was vice president of corporate marketing, responsible for the company's worldwide distribution and pricing strategies, as well as for major account marketing efforts and worldwide corporate market research. Previously Johns was vice president of marketing operations for Compaq. Before joining Compaq in February 1984, Johns held management positions with IBM Corporation for 11 years. Ross Cooley
As senior vice president, North America, Ross Cooley oversees all of the company's U.S. and Canadian business efforts, including Field Sales, Sales Operations, North American Marketing, North American Systems Engineering and Customer Service. Cooley also directs all aspects of planning and the implementation of pricing, advertising, promotion, distribution, service and support for the company's products in the U.S. and Canada.
Since joining Compaq in February 1984, Cooley has held a number of managerial positions, including vice president of sales and service, vice president of sales, director of sales operations and regional sales manager. Prior to joining Compaq, he held several sales and marketing management positions with IBM Corporation for 18 years. Andreas Barth
Based in Compaq's European headquarters in Munich, Germany, Andreas Barth, senior vice president of Europe, directs the day-to-day operations of sales, service and marketing in Eastern and Western Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
Barth joined Compaq in 1988 and has held several positions with the company, including managing director, Central Europe, responsible for the company's sales and marketing activities in Germany, Austria and Switzerland; and managing director, Compaq Computer GmbH (Compaq Germany). Previously, Barth was managing director of Thomson Bauelemente GmbH, an electronics company and held managerial positions with Texas Instruments.
Compaq Computer Corporation is a world leader in the manufacture of PC systems, and desktop, portable, laptop and notebook personal computers. COMPAQ products are sold and serviced in more than 69 countries through a variety of dealers, systems integrators, VARs and distributors.
Founded in February 1982, Compaq ranks number 377 in the "Global Fortune 500," Fortune Magazine's listing of the world's largest companies. In the 1991 U.S. Fortune 500, Compaq ranks number 136.
