HOUSTON, Nov. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Compaq Computer Corporation (NYSE: CPQ) today reduced suggested resale prices by 25 percent on existing models of the award-winning COMPAQ LTE 386s/20 notebook personal computer, making these feature-packed products more affordable than ever. The company also announced a new 84-Megabyte version of the product.
Compaq introduced this revolutionary 386SX-based notebook computer one year ago, and it has since become one of the world's most popular notebook PCs.
Suggested Resale Prices of the COMPAQ LTE 386s/20 are now $3,299 for the Model 30; $3,599 for the Model 60; and $4,199 for the Model 84 (dealer pricing may vary). The new model is available immediately from Authorized COMPAQ Computer Dealers.
The 84-Megabyte version of the COMPAQ LTE 386s/20 is the ideal choice for Compaq customers who need high performance and the utmost in storage capabilities.
"Compaq notebook PCs are extremely popular products because they have optimized performance, the right combination of features and functionality, including the Desktop Expansion Base, and they're built to last," said Lorie Strong, vice president of marketing, PC Division, Compaq Computer Corporation.
"The original COMPAQ LTE 386s/20 led the market from the moment it was introduced, and the Model 84 along with the new aggressive pricing will further strengthen its appeal," Strong added.
The COMPAQ LTE 386s/20 Model 84 comes standard with all the features of the current product line, including an Intel 20-MHz 386SX microprocessor; 4-Kbyte four-way cache; two megabytes of enhanced-page Random Access Memory (RAM); easy to read VGA edgelit display; internal 3.5 inch 1.44-megabyte diskette drive; more than three hours of battery life; and an 8.5 x 11 x 2.2-inch, 7.5-pound package.
The optional Desktop Expansion Base provides full desktop functionality with two full-sized, 8-/16-bit industry standard expansion slots and two extra drive bays, offering maximum versatility.
In addition, the Worldwide Warranty offered by Compaq ensures reliable service in more than 60 countries, offering extraordinary support for international business travelers.
Earlier this year, the COMPAQ LTE 386s/20 won the COMPUTER RESELLER NEWS Editor's Choice award, 1990 INFOWORLD Product of the Year, and two PC MAGAZINE Editor's Choice awards.
The notebook computer market continues to grow at a rapid pace, and 386SX products are becoming the standard, according to various market research studies. According to International Data Corporation, the notebook market worldwide is expected to grow from less than two million units in 1991 to more than six million units in 1995.
