 COMPAQ ANNOUNCES FREE THREE-YEAR ON-SITE WARRANTY
 AND 24-HOUR SUPPORT WITH NEW COMPAQ PC SERVERS
 HOUSTON, Oct. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Compaq Computer Corporation (NYSE: CPQ) today announced that it is offering a new three-year on-site warranty and round-the-clock hardware support standard with the purchase of the following PC server products which were announced today: COMPAQ ProSignia, COMPAQ SYSTEMPRO/XL and associated options, such as the COMPAQ ProLiant external storage system.
 In a related move, Compaq today also announced several new fee-based options for customers who require advanced network support, including IncidentPAQ; Per Incident; and 7 x 24 support; as well as a new AirSpare program, which provides same-day delivery of spare parts; and the addition of new on-site guaranteed service providers.
 Combined with today's announcement, Compaq has introduced 12 new customer support programs or enhancements over the past year through CompaqCare, the industry's most comprehensive service and support program.

Three-Year On-Site Warranty and 7 x 24 Hardware Support
 The new three-year on-site limited warranty and round-the-clock hardware support both are free (North America) with the purchase of the COMPAQ ProSignia, an entirely new class of affordable PC servers, and the COMPAQ SYSTEMPRO/XL, the world's fastest PC server, and related options (see separate news releases). The 7 x 24 hardware support enables customers who purchase these new PC server products to receive live support from Compaq technical personnel seven days a week, 24 hours a day.
 Worldwide, the new PC server models (COMPAQ ProSignia and COMPAQ SYSTEMPRO/XL and related options) all come standard with a three-year warranty. Some Compaq subsidiaries will also offer additional support options, including on-site warranty service, depending on their specific customer and market requirements. IncidentPAQ
 In addition to offering a yearly contract for advanced network support -- the Advanced Network Support Agreement (ANSA) -- Compaq now offers customers in networked environments the option to have Compaq engineers work directly with them to resolve five network-related incidents. (Editor's Note: ANSA is a support contract enabling networked customers to receive advanced levels of technical expertise in the configuration, installation and ongoing operation of local area networks).  For those customers who have minimal network support needs, and prefer to purchase "a la carte" options, Compaq also offers IncidentPAQ, for the resolution of a single network-related incident. To take advantage of this option, customers are not required to purchase an Advanced Network Support Agreement. 7 x 24 Support Option
 Offered as a fee-based item through ANSA, the new 7 x 24 Network Operating Systems Support provides customers in networked environments with direct access to Compaq's highest levels of engineering expertise seven days a week, 24 hours a day. The option addresses the needs of a growing number of companies that schedule their network maintenance after hours and during the weekend in order to minimize workday downtime. Compaq AirSpare
 Compaq AirSpare is a fee-based program that combines the best of Compaq and rapid air couriers to deliver COMPAQ spare parts the same day they are requested. The requested part is picked up from Compaq in Houston, put on the next available flight out, picked up from the airport of destination and delivered to the customer's door. Guaranteed Service Providers
 Compaq has authorized five of North America's major resellers to become Compaq Guaranteed Service Providers: MicroAge, BasiComputer and JWP in the U.S., and Crowntek and ComputerLand in Canada. Each reseller now can be dispatched by Compaq for the fulfillment of on-site warranty service. The new Guaranteed Service Providers join Compaq's Third Party Maintainers to offer Compaq customers the broadest choice of companies for on-site service. The program also allows customers to maintain existing business relationships with the Compaq Authorized Reseller of their choice. The CompaqCare Umbrella

CompaqCare programs cover on-site repair, technical support, electronic access, hotline support, customer training and self- maintainer assistance.
