Kid's club - Free event from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Thursday at Valley River Center for children ages 4 to 10; includes a discussion of pets, a visit from Cascade Raptor Center, singing and crafts. 541-683-5513.

Cascade Mycological Society - 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at Lane Community College, Room 115, Science Building No. 16, 4000 E. 30th Ave.; Anna Moore will present talk on "Mushrooms of the Oregon Dunes." Moore spends much of her time on the Oregon Coast hiking and foraging in the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area. 541-746-7548.

Balance disorders - Physical therapist Kenji Carp will give a talk to the Lane County Hearing Loss Association about vestibular (balance) disorders from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday at the Hilyard Community Center, 2580 Hilyard St. The talk is free and open to the public. Inner ear problems can lead to dizziness, vertigo and other balance disorders; Carp will explain what can be done to assess and treat them.

Leiken re-election - Lane County Commissioner Sid Leiken will be the guest speaker at the noon Rubicon Society luncheon on Thursday at the Kowloon Restaurant and Lounge, 2222 Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. He will report on his recent trip to Washington, D.C., and will answer questions regarding his re-election campaign. For more information, visit www.rubiconsociety.org.

Marijuana legalization - Free talk from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., Thursday at Eugene Public Library's Bascom Room, 100 W. 10th Ave. Guest facilitator is Dan Koozer, director of Willamette Valley NORML (National Organization for Reform of Marijuana Laws), who became a cannabis legalization activist after being charged in 1996 for possession of the controlled substance cannabis. He co-founded the NORML chapter - www.willamettevalleynorml.org - in 2008. Open to the public; bring a brown bag dinner or snack. Contact lanechapter@aclu-or.org.
