Achievements

Youth track and field: Twenty young athletes from the Emerald Valley Track Club competed in the recent USATF Region 13 Junior Olympic Track and Field Championships at Jesuit High School in Portland. Clara Snelling was the regional champion in the 11-12 girls pentathlon and high jump, and she also qualified for nationals in the 80-meter hurdles. Bryant Driscoll (9-10 boys race walk), Jedidiah Driscoll (11-12 boys shot put and high jump) and Madison Elmore (13-14 girls 800 and 1,500) also qualified to compete at the national Junior Olympic championships, which will be held July 27-Aug. 5 in Jacksonville, Fla. Previously at the Junior Olympic Oregon state meet in McMinnville, EVTC's Isabella Dreiling (11-12 girls 800), Jedidiah Driscoll (11-12 boys shot put), Elmore (13-14 girls 800 and 1500) and Snelling (11-12 girls Pentathlon, high jump and 80 hurdles) won individual championships.

Water polo: The Eugene City Water Polo's 14U team won the silver medal at the recent Oregon State Games at the Multnomah Athletic Club in Portland. The team beat clubs from throughout Oregon to take second place.

Baseball: The 10U Willamette Valley South Babe Ruth All-Stars defeated Upper Rogue 6-0 Saturday to win the Southern Oregon Babe Ruth Championship and earn a spot at the Northwest Regional this week at West Linn. Maddox Molony threw a three-hitter for Willamette Valley South, and Nolan Christ went 3-for-3 with a three-run home run. The team is one of two from the state of Oregon to compete at the regional. The other teams are from Idaho, Washington, Montana and British Columbia.

Event

Tennis tournament: The sixth annual Laura Meadow Memorial Mixed Doubles Tennis Tourney will be held July 26 at the Cottage Grove Coiner Park tennis courts. Divisions will include mixed doubles events for players of all ages and levels. Camps

Football skills: Several former Oregon and NFL players will held lead a three-hour Kidsports football skills camps for players, and an hourlong camp for coaches, July 25 at the Churchill High turf field. The session for second- and third-graders will be 9 a.m. to noon; and the session for fourth- and fifth-graders will be 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Cost is $15 and check-in is 30 minutes before the start time. A free coaching clinic begins at 12:15 p.m. Former players helping to lead the camp include Josh Bidwell, Jason Fife and Marshaun Tucker, while Churchill High players will assist with the youth camp.

Little Timbers: The Eugene Timbers Futbol Club will begin its Little Timbers Summer Academy Camps with a four-day camp for players age 4 to 10 beginning July 20. This camp will run from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Lane Community College. A second camp will run Aug. 10-12, from 9 a.m. to noon also at LCC. Each camp is $60. ETFC Soccer: The Eugene Timbers Futbol Club is offering a summer camp for players age 6 to 14 from 9 a.m. to noon Aug. 18-20 at Lane Community College. Cost is $85 if you registered before Aug. 10 ($100 after Aug. 10). All sessions are conducted by ETFC staff coaches and directed by Porter Garrison-Terry.
