The University of Oregon club baseball team travels to Bradenton, Fla., this week as one of eight regional champions qualifying for the National Club Baseball Association World Series. Oregon (21-8) will face North Carolina State (30-9) in the final game of the quarterfinal round at 9:30 a.m. PDT Thursday. Oregon's starting pitcher will be sophomore Scott Sullivan from Beaverton, 6-0 with a 1.24 ERA in seven appearances this season. The Ducks will play either defending national champion Colorado State or Wisconsin-Eau Claire on Friday. The universities of Maryland, Massachusetts and Illinois, plus Sam Houston State, are the other World Series teams. A week ago Oregon qualified for the national finals for the second consecutive year by winning the North Pacific regional championship, dropping Weber State 13-4, UCLA 8-7 and splitting a pair with Western Washington, losing 8-4 and winning 7-0. In the regional tournament, sophomore Matt Oss from Canby was 6-for-11 with two doubles, seven runs batted in and four runs scored. He was 3-for-3 with both doubles and four RBIs in the championship game. Relief pitcher Timothy Hegdahl, a junior from Ashland, twice entered games in bases-loaded, no-out situations to retire the side without allowing a run. Supporters who want to help with the team's travel expenses may donate to "club sports baseball" or "UO Foundation" at Annual Giving Program, University of Oregon, P.O. Box 3346, Eugene OR 97403.
