Brock Gutches, 14, and Zach Kearney, 15, of the Churchill Wrestling Club have already won middle school state championships this spring in collegiate style. Now the two Kennedy Middle School eighth-graders are seeking to improve their combined 111-6 record at the freestyle and Greco-Roman state tournaments. Gutches, wrestling in the School Boy class 100-pound division, is 65-1 for the year. His state tournament was the past weekend at Roseburg. Kearney, who wrestles in the Cadet class 136-pound division, will try to improve on his 46-5 record at state competition this weekend in Bend. He has already qualified for the national championship tournament at Fargo, N.D., in July. Both boys, for whom wrestling is an 11-month-a-year sport, will enter Churchill High School in the fall, Gutches expects to wrestle in the 103-pound division and Kearney at 145.
