 COMMUNITY PSYCHIATRIC CENTERS SELECTS
 SHARED MEDICAL SOFTWARE SYSTEMS
LAGUNA HILLS, Calif., June 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Community Psychiatric Centers (NYSE: CMY) announced today that it has signed a letter of intent to license and install Shared Medical Systems (SMS) INVISION software systems in its 44 U.S. hospitals. Implementation assistance will be provided by Ernst & Young and SMS. The contract would cover a five-year period and sets a fixed price for all services of approximately $27 million, including $16 million during the initial two- year installation.
The SMS INVISION applications will enable CPC to automate patient admitting, patient accounting, medical records, utilization review, marketing, managed care, fiscal systems and certain clinical functions. These systems will enable CPC to become more efficient and effective in daily processing, producing more timely financial statements and data, as well as providing better information concerning profitability by payer, program, patient and physician. Outcomes research will also be facilitated.
The conversion over to the SMS systems would occur within a 24-month period. The letter of intent is subject to negotiation of a definitive contract during the next 30 days. An option to renew would also be provided.
Community Psychiatric Centers delivers psychiatric services through 50 hospitals across the United States, Puerto Rico and the United Kingdom. The company's stock is traded on the New York, Boston, Midwest and Pacific exchanges.
