 COMMUNITY PSYCHIATRIC CENTERS NAMES EXECUTIVES
 TO HEAD TRANSITIONAL CARE SUBSIDIARY
LAGUNA HILLS, Calif., July 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Community Psychiatric Centers (NYSE: CMY) announced today the appointments of several key managers for its newly formed subsidiary, Transitional Hospitals Corp. (THC). Joining THC as president is Rod Laughlin, formerly executive vice president, development and administrative services, for Charter Medical Corp.
Laughlin, 45, was responsible for the development and opening of more than 80 psychiatric and acute care hospitals for Charter from 1979 to 1990. Among his specific duties were new market development; facility design, construction and expansion; acquisitions and divestitures; corporate long-range planning; and corporate and government relations.
Also joining THC as vice president for development is Paul Eiseman, 44, who worked with Laughlin as Charter's vice president for development. Laughlin and Eiseman will be based in THC headquarters in Atlanta.
Two top administrators from Vencor, Bob Eaton, 55, and Jerry Lerman, 60, have also joined THC to run the first two THC facilities in Arlington, Texas, and New Orleans, respectively. Eaton was previously administrator of Vencor's San Antonio facility and Lerman was administrator of the Vencor Ft. Worth hospital.
"We are delighted to have such proven performers on board to guide the success of our first two facilities," said Laughlin. "While it was difficult for them to leave such a highly successful company as Vencor, both felt that THC's future with Community Psychiatric's backing presented an opportunity too bright to let pass."
The Texas THC hospital will comprise about 80 beds, while the New Orleans facility initially will encompass 45 beds. Both are scheduled to open in October 1992. Various other markets are being examined at this time to determine their suitability for THC's products. As previously announced, THC will convert floors of CPC facilities where appropriate to maximize the use of physical assets. This will not preclude certain select acquisitions, however, in attractive markets currently not served by CPC.
The transitional care market treats medically-complex, sub-acute care patients who have suffered catastrophic illnesses or injuries and require long-term hospitalization in a less costly setting than a medical/surgical hospital can offer.
Community Psychiatric Centers currently delivers psychiatric services through 50 hospitals in the United States, Puerto Rico and the United Kingdom. The company's stock is traded on the New York, Boston, Midwest and Pacific exchanges.
