COMMODITIES EXPORT CO. ATTORNEY CALLS NEWS CONFERENCE FRIDAY, JAN. 31,
 TO EXPOSE BRIDGE DEAL SECRETS
The following was released today by Commodities Export Company attorney Roger Craig:
Owners of a duty-free store at the Ambassador Bridge are protesting what they called a move by U.S. Customs to take away their property and award it to their only competitor, the Detroit International Bridge Company's Ammex outlet.
Commodities Export Company at Porter and 21st streets, Detroit, contends in U.S. District Court that a pending condemnation suit against the Bridge Company on behalf of Customs has become a "friendly" suit resulting in a settlement proposed by the company itself, which includes condemnation of Commodities property.
The agreement, according to Commodities attorney Roger Craig, "creates a rigged condemnation under which Commodities loses its business and Ammex acquires a monopoly, with the government acting as business agent for Bridge Company owner Manuel J. Moroun."
Craig invites Detroit media to a news conference at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 31, at the Detroit Press Club, in which he will disclose the terms of the secret agreement crafted by Moroun interests and adopted by the very government agency that initiated proceedings against Moroun's company.
"The media have dubbed Moroun 'The Quiet Tycoon,' and when the details of this outrageous private agenda are made public, it will be obvious why he wants things kept quiet," Craig said.
