COMMISSION POSTPONES DEBATE ON FISHERIES.

Due to a particularly heavy agenda that includes the repercussions of the conflict between Georgia and Russia, the European Commission has decided to postpone, until 17 September, its policy debate on the Common Fisheries Policy, initially set for 2 September (see Europolitics 3585). The French EU Presidency has also confirmed that an informal Fisheries Council will be held in the morning of 29 September in Brussels, before the formal Agriculture and Fisheries Council, which will get under way at 15:00 the same day. Paris intends to launch at that session reflection on a health check' of the Common Fisheries Policy. (AEC)
