COMERICA BANK-CALIFORNIA EXECUTIVE RETIRES

SAN JOSE, Calif., June 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Patricia N. Lowell, president of Comerica Bank-California and executive vice president of Comerica California Inc., today announced her plans to retire from both positions effective July 5, 1993. Lowell will remain a director of the corporation and the bank.
In making her announcement, Lowell praised the quality of leadership currently in place, and Comerica Bank-California's continuing reputation as one of the top banks in the state. Lowell reinforced her commitment to the bank and the community and noted her personal pride in a banking career that has lasted some 30 years.
"I have been in banking for a long time and am very proud of my accomplishments. As I reflect on my career, I can truly say my role in the banking industry has been very rewarding," Lowell said. "However, I am ready to move on to the challenges and opportunities retirement will afford me. I feel the bank is in excellent hands. The management team that will continue to lead the bank is rock solid. Their experience level and understanding of the bank and its marketplace are unparalleled."
On July 5, an Office of the Chairman will be established within the bank. Jack W. Conner will continue to serve as chairman of Comerica Bank-California and president and chief executive officer of Comerica California Inc.
In addition, J. Michael Fulton takes on the role of president and chief executive officer of the bank. He will also remain executive vice president of Comerica California Inc. Walter T. Kaczmarek will serve as chief operating officer of the bank and executive vice president of both the bank and Comerica California Inc.
Lowell's tenure as president of the bank was the culmination of a distinguished career that began in 1963 at Crocker National Bank. In 1979, Lowell joined Comerica Bank-California, formerly Plaza Bank of Commerce, as vice president and senior credit officer and was appointed president in 1985.
Her community involvement has included her service as a member of the board of directors for the San Jose Medical Center, the board of regents for Santa Clara University and the foundation board for Hope Rehabilitation Services.
"Pat Lowell has made a great number of contributions to this organization and this community," said Conner. "Her unselfish commitment to helping the community has made a true impact. I look forward, as does the entire board, to her continuing contributions as a director."
Comerica Bank-California is a San Jose-based organization and a subsidiary of Comerica California Inc. In 1991, Comerica Inc. (NYSE: CMA) entered the California marketplace through its affiliation with PLaza Commerce Bancorp, holding company for Plaza Bank of Commerce.
Comerica Inc., headquartered in Detroit, operates banks in Michigan, Illinois, Texas, California and Florida.
