COMARCO INC. OFFERS SYNOPSIS OF REMARKS MADE AT CRUTTENDEN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA GROWTH STOCK CONFERENCE

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif., Feb. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- The following is a summary of remarks made by Anaheim Hills, Calif.-based Comarco Inc. (NASDAQ: CMRO) today at the Cruttenden Southern California Growth Stock Conference.
Comarco Inc. is successfully diversifying into non-defense related businesses, it was reported today at Cruttenden & Co.'s Southern California Growth Stock Conference by Don Bailey, Comarco's chief executive officer.
Comarco, based in Anaheim Hills, has historically provided engineering services in the form of weapons systems analysis and communications testing to the U.S. Army and Navy. While this sector of Comarco's operations generated approximately 65 percent of total revenue during the fiscal year ended Jan. 31, two other businesses developed from the company's work with the Defense Department are increasingly generating a larger share of Comarco's operating income.
The first business area, facilities management for local, regional and state governments, is capitalizing on the budget pressures being felt at all levels of government. Comarco provides airports and fleet operators with cost-efficient facilities management services. Current customers include Los Angeles County and the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority. Other related markets targeted by the company include convention centers, stadiums and parks and recreation departments. For fiscal 1993, revenues from facilities management increased to 25 percent of total Comarco revenues, up from just 9 percent in fiscal 1990.
Perhaps the most exciting aspect of Comarco's diversification is its specialized wireless communications systems. During the past three years, revenue share as a percentage of Comarco's total revenues has more than doubled. For the fiscal year ended Jan. 31, 1993, this component generated approximately 17 percent of the company's operating profit. Three years ago this area had a small loss.
Comarco's specialized cellular communications products include a solar-powered emergency callbox system that has become a frequent sight along many of the freeways in New York and California. Some 15,000 of Comarco's callboxes have been ordered worldwide and derivative products are in development. The company's market share of installed systems is 85 percent.
Comarco's cellular Network Evaluation System is quickly gaining popularity with cellular telephone system operators throughout the United States and Canada. Introduced just a little more than one year ago, the Network Evaluation System helps operators improve the quality of wireless (cellular) telephone connections through the precise identification of system trouble spots. To date, approximately two dozen of the systems have been ordered. Bailey noted that the company believes the potential for the Network Evaluation System has barely been tapped, with some 1,468 cellular markets in the United States and large, rapidly growing markets in Europe, Asia, South America and Canada.
Comarco expects to report fiscal 1993 results for the year ended Jan. 31 in early April. In the meantime, Bailey said that the company was comfortable with analysts' estimates of $.60 per share in earnings for the year just ended. This third consecutive year of strong earnings' performance has allowed the company to build a substantial cash position of more than $11 million, while eliminating bank debt. Acquisition criteria have been set into place and the company is exploring prudent opportunities.
Comarco Inc. provides facility management services, engineering services, and wireless communications products to the public and private sectors.
