COMAIR PILOTS REJECT TENTATIVE AGREEMENT

WASHINGTON, Jan. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- The pilots' union at Comair today overwhelmingly rejected a tentative agreement reached between pilot negotiators and Comair management on Dec. 6, 1992. Approximately 96 percent of eligible pilots voted on the contract ratification issue. Of those who voted, 94 percent voted to reject the tentative agreement.
"Obviously, the tentative agreement fell considerably short of meeting the pilots' needs. This vote sends a clear message that Comair pilots expect and will demand a fair contract," said Capt. John Okerson, chairman of the Comair pilots' Master Executive Council, a unit of the Air Line Pilots Association.
The Comair pilot contract became amendable on June 1, 1991. Negotiations between Comair pilots and management have been in mediation since March 1992. "This agreement is long overdue," continued Okerson. "It's important that we resume the collective bargaining process quickly and that we redouble our efforts to reach a satisfactory agreement."
Approximately 600 Comair pilots are represented by ALPA. Comair, a Delta Connection carrier, serves 63 cities in the United States, Canada, and the Bahamas, with main hubs in Cincinnati, Ohio, and Orlando, Fla.
ALPA is the largest labor union and professional organization of U.S. airline pilots. It is affiliated with the AFL-CIO and holds bargaining rights for 42,000 airline pilots at 44 airlines.
