COMAIR/DELTA CONNECTION FIRST TO RETURN AIRLINE SERVICE
TO KEY WEST FOLLOWING HURRICANE ANDREW
CINCINNATI, Aug. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- COMAIR, Inc. (NASDAQ/NMS: COMR), the Cincinnati and Orlando based Delta Connection carrier, announced today that following the disruption of airline service throughout southern Florida caused by Hurricane Andrew on the 24th and 25th of August, COMAIR was the first to return scheduled service to Key West, Fla. As the last scheduled carrier serving the community on Sunday, the 23rd, COMAIR added additional extra sections to accommodate as many passengers wishing to leave the island as possible. On Tuesday, Aug. 25, COMAIR sent a team of officials from its Cincinnati and Orlando bases in a specially equipped corporate jet to reestablish communications between Key West and the Delta system. Service was returned with the arrival of flights from Ft. Lauderdale, Miami and Orlando and the morning departures going to Miami at 9 a.m., Ft. Lauderdale at 9:20 a.m. and Orlando at 9:30 a.m. The scheduled service to Tampa will also operate today. COMAIR operates more flights out of Key West to more Florida destinations than any other scheduled carrier.
Charles Curran, senior vice president/marketing, said, "We are very pleased to rapidly return scheduled air service to the Key West market. Air travel is critical to the business of the Key West community and to the continued success of its leisure and business markets. As the largest carrier in Key West, we are pleased to do everything possible to return our full pattern of service to normal operation."
Separately, COMAIR has today reinstated its full pattern of service to all of the south Florida communities affected by Hurricane Andrew; this includes full service to Miami/Ft. Lauderdale, West Palm Beach, Naples, Fla. and Nassau and Freeport in the Bahamas.
