COLUMBIA JOINS FORCES WITH CBS STATIONS FOR SYNDICATED 'CRISTINA'
LOS ANGELES, May 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Columbia Pictures Television Distribution will join forces with the CBS Television Stations Division, which is producing a daily, one-hour talk show starring television personality/journalist Cristina Saralegui, it was confirmed today by Barry Thurston, president, Columbia Pictures Television Distribution, and Johnathan Rodgers, president of the CBS Television Stations.
"Cristina" will premiere June 22 on CBS-owned stations WCBS-TV/New York, KCBS-TV/Los Angeles and WCIX-TV/Miami, with the latter serving as the home production base for the series.
Saralegui currently hosts "The Cristina Show," a daily talk program for Univision's broadcast and cable network which is the highest-rated daytime series on Spanish-language television. She will continue to serve as both host and executive producer for "The Cristina Show" as well as the English-language "Cristina."
In addition to television, Saralegui is recognized as a national spokesperson for Procter & Gamble's Crest toothpaste and for her daily radio program which airs on the Cadena Radio Centro (CRC) Network. She is also editor of the monthly magazine Cristina La Revista and was formerly editor-in-chief of Cosmo-en-Espanol, the internationally distributed Spanish-language version of Cosmopolitan.
"Every so often we see someone on television who jumps off the screen. That's what I experienced when I first saw Cristina," says Rodgers. "Her charisma, her background as a print journalist and the built-in audience she brings makes me truly excited about this series."
"Cristina is a dynamic talk show host," says Thurston, whose company will syndicate the series nationally. "She tackles daring topics, asks bold questions and inspires exciting debate between her guests and the live audience."
"Cristina's intelligence, compassion and sparkling personality, which make her a star on Spanish-language television, will ensure her success on English-language television," says Allen Shaklan, vice president and general manager of WCIX.
In addition to the CBS stations, Columbia has already cleared "Cristina" on KCRA-TV/Sacramento (NBC), KSBW-TV/Monterey-Salinas (NBC), KSBY-TV/Santa Barbara (NBC), KOAA-TV/Colorado Springs (NBC) and KRGV-TV/Harlingen-Weslaco-Brownsville (ABC).
Saralegui will serve as executive producer for the series along with Scott Sternberg, president of Scott Sternberg Productions. Previously, Sternberg was executive vice president of Guber-Peters Television, overseeing production and development. He has executive producer credits on such series as "The Dating Game," "The Newlywed Game" and the "Paul Rodriguez Show." He also served as executive consultant for "Vicki!" and producer for "Hollywood Squares" and "Love Connection."
